A person commits fraud if, with intent to obtain an unlawful pecuniary advantage for themselves or a third party, they cause another to suffer a financial loss by inducing or maintaining an error through misrepresentation, distortion or suppression of facts.
Sentencing range: 3 months to 5 years; 2–5 years for higher damages; 5–10 years for losses over €120,000 or for repeat offenders causing over €30,000 in losses; 5–20 years where losses to the state or public‑law entities exceed €150,000.
Common cases include credit fraud, computer fraud, insurance fraud, fraud against the Greek state, subsidy fraud and cheque fraud.
